A Little Change

After blogger disaster in Turkey, I moved my blog to a shared hosting. Shift happened too fast, so I just picked a random theme for my blog. At the end, today, I found a chance to Google for some cool wordpress themes. I decided on something called “resurrection”. It is buggy and doesn’t support widgets. You have to manually adjust the your sidebar content. Despite lack of  wordpress functionally, it makes your blog look like a bit geeky and cool. I’m planning to play with theme and write some stuff to handle standard wordpress things  in my free time.

Finally, I’m getting close to the end of the semester. So, I’ll have more free time to play Red Alert 3 and do some funny things. Describe “funny things”? I registered a funny domain to make a small enjoyable web 2.0 application. It won’t be a big issue but it’ll have more functionally than isit2009yet. Enough talk lets, fight 🙂

What is Google Waiting For a Stable Version of Gmail?

Gmail is out there for years and works fine but it is still in Beta. Gmail team improved Gmail Spam very well and added lots of features including themes support. Even though, they put delete button !!! However, it is still in Beta. I don’t understand how Google’s applications/services versioning works. Sometimes, I though they may still dealing with annoying security threats or working on a new spam filter to make super duper unbreakable spam detection and removal system to reach stable version of Gmail. But, Google isn’t perfect and Gmail too.

Academic Studies & Courses

After, I spent some time to implement “Bresenham’s line” and “seed fill” algorithms for Image Processing course homework; I noticed that I haven’t blogged enough for my graduate program.

It is MS program in Computer Engineering at Istanbul University. I registered 3 courses; Advanced Computer Architectures, Image Processing Techniques for Computer Engineering, Computer Language Engineering for fall semester.  You can access course details by this link.

I haven’t decided my thesis subject yet but, I feel that it seems to be about Semantic Web, AI (like knowledge presentation, machine learning …) or Information Retrieval (IR) systems.

Nowadays, I’m dealing with Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) or Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI).  It is a new subject but growing fast among next generation web search engines (like Google, Hakia … etc).  It needs some mathematical skills like linear algebra to analyze data. If I had been told this relation before I would payed more attention to mathematics than I did. Anyway, my mathematical knowledge is still fine 😉 I can find (solve) what I need (for now).  I’ll try to write much about my academic studies and interests.

Android is Getting Polular

Motorola moving from linux based mobile phone stack to Google’s Android. It seems there would be big compitition between iPhone & Android in the future. Today,  I think iPhone ahead of others

Google Chrome

Google is aiming to provide brand new web browser for next generation web with Google Chrome. First release will be today, I’ll be waiting for it.
