Is Microsoft Still Evil?

Microsoft is known as being an evil company. Isn’t it? During the past few years Microsoft used to be dominant in the market with its products and services like; operation systems, office programs and development tools by following unethical methods. So, something happened and all went wrong for them.

In my opinion, change was technology itself nothing else. Linux, Web, Web 2.0, mobile devices, platform independent tools, Web 3.0 … etc. Microsoft has followed same strategies over the years and succeeded but it didn’t work for this time. Microsoft may be an evil or not but, now, they are not acting like an evil.

There has been significant changes at Microsoft’s product strategy, like; considering other browsers, cross platform products (silverlight), contributing to open source (asp.net MVC) …etc. They are not ignoring now, they are considering options different than Microsoft.

I’m not sure about Microsoft’s being evil or good but I’m sure one thing; they imitate not innovate. That’s why I’m not a Microsoft guy.

Challenging Talks From TED

For the last few days I have been watching TED talks at ted.com and fascinated by Emily Levine and Sir Ken Robinson’s performance. I have marked some of them as my favorites and also, they are interesting and funny ones. I recommend you to watch at least one of them.

Sir Ken Robinson: Do schools kill creativity?

Emily Levine: A trickster’s theory of everything.

JoAnn Kuchera-Morin: Tour the AlloSphere, a stunning new way to see scientific data.

John Wooden: Coaching for people, not points.

Am I Depressed?

One million dollar question, “Am I Depressed?”  Last few days or weeks I’m not doing what I’m supposed to do, it is like my life is weird. Some facts;

  • I don’t want to go work
  • I don’t want to read anything
  • I want to blog but I don’t
  • I watch TV Shows whole night
  • I don’t want to go out. I’m living the most spectacular place in the world, in İstanbul
  • Listening Turkish songs (seems ok but my favorite Turkish singers are popular with their slow songs)
  • Lots  of things that I wanted to do about my semantic web but I’m not doing

Strange thing is I used to love those things but I don’t want to do them now. I just stay at my room and my computer that is it.

I need to do something which will change my mood, if not I’ll be someone blogging about being overweight and obese …etc

I have two options to change my life; one is a new place, city, country and second one is an outdoor hobby.

What a Nice Friday

It is Friday, working day and week is about to end in one hour time. Despite yesterday’s windy, cold weather, it is too hot today. Here what it looks like when you look through our office windows.

I don’t have any plan for tonight but I don’t want to say at home.

Yes Man Yesss

“I want you to invite yes into your lives… When you say yes to things, you embrace the possible. You gobble up all of life’s energies and you excrete the waste…”

I have seen “Yes Man” twice and it is kind a different for a comedy movie.
Main theme is saying yes brings opportunities and makes you live the life. In brief, I’m impressed. I like Jim Carrey‘s perform and Zooey Deschanel as Allison is really cute. She made me watch it twice. If you haven’t seen it yet, it is worth to see.

A Short Journey to My Hometown

Tonight I’m flying to my hometown. Planning to spend time with my family and younger sister; she has been waiting for me to play games. Also, I want to see my old friends, so I may not be online whole weekend.

This Sunday Turkey is going to vote for local elections and so do I. I hope our country will get the management it deserves.

I have to be at work by week starts, so I already booked tickets for Monday morning.

Happy weekend.

Who is Mysterion?

South Park made a cool start to Season 13. Episode 2; “The Coon” is awesome, watched twice and still don’t know the true identity of Mysterion Kid. Made a quick research by exploring south park forums and fun sites but I couldn’t find the right answers to the question “Who is Mysterion?”

In my opinion Kenny or Clyde could be Mystreion Kid in the episode. My clues;

  • When Cartman speaks about “Who is the Coon?” only Kenny and Stan pay attention to Cartman but Clyde sleeps in the class (may be tired whole night?).
  • Kenny is poor and he doesn’t have enough money to have a nice costume.
  • When Mysterion fights Professor Chaos, he dies and wakes up again. Kenny does it always.
  • Kenny’s and Clyde’s voice are so close to Mysterion’s deep voice.

These are my thoughts about Mysterion but it is South Park anyone could be him. I think directors have future plans about super heroes.

Dayan Kalbim by Gökhan Kırdar

Gökhan Kırdar is the most popular singer/songwriter for TV shows in Turkey. His style is fascinating and unique; you can guess his songs easily whenever you hear it. Dayan Kalbim is my favorite, don’t try to understand it, feel it in your soul.

Your New Toy ASP.NET MVC 1.0 is Ready !!!

After a long development process Microsoft announced stable release of ASP.NET MVC 1.0 some resources about ASP.NET MVC and official download link is here.

After a quick glance to product details, it doesn’t bring brand new features even though MVC technology has been available in open source world for years. Also, there is a feature comparison between asp.net web forms and new asp.net MVC:

  • “…Separation of application tasks (input logic, business logic, and UI logic), testability, and test-driven development (TDD) by default. All core contracts in the MVC framework are interface-based and can be tested by using mock objects, which are simulated objects that imitate the behavior of actual objects in the application. You can unit-test the application without having to run the controllers in an ASP.NET process, which makes unit testing fast and flexible. You can use any unit-testing framework that is compatible with the .NET Framework…”
  • “…URL naming patterns that work well for search engine optimization (SEO) and representational state transfer (REST) addressing…”

Briefly, Microsoft tells us; until today we made you build applications that cannot be separable conceptually (data, business, presentation layer) and cannot be unit tested and also, we put things that you cannot optimize your web sites for SEO … Developers who don’t know open source may not think the way I’m because it a new technology for them.

Those Microsoft guys enjoy your new toy :)
